Chair Design

A five-day workshop in designing and prototyping a chair of your own.

Designing a chair is one of the most demanding challenges in furniture making. The ergonomics are complex, the structure has to carry load in multiple directions, and every decision about form has a consequence for how the chair feels to sit in.

In this five-day workshop Ross will guide you through the process of designing and prototyping a chair from the ground up. Along the way you will investigate ergonomics and proportion, timber shaping and bending, joinery options, making jigs and fixtures, and simple upholstery.

You will leave with a prototype and a design process you can apply to future work.
